About TUCA

Who we are

A publication for curious people trying to make sense of the world we inherited. For those willing to question the obvious. Through essays, stories, films, letters and open conversations about the messy complexities of being human, this here will be a curiosity journey.

Our Story

From Anonymous To An Open Book

The Unlearning Curve started as my attempt to find my way back to writing. I thought I was simply going to write essays and remind myself why writing was my first love. I examined my feelings, my place in society, family, relationships, change, success, and slowly, a pattern was emerging. I had more questions than answers.

Questions about living. What was the meaning of all this? Why was it like this? Why are we like this? That questioning became The Unlearning Curve. I would choose a question or topic I was curious about and interrogate myself.

A whole year after I just wanted to write, I realised I had more. And TUCA was born. No more anonymity. Not the occasional one piece every so often. I had stories, poems, books, letters filling up dozens and dozens of notebooks. Archives collecting dust while I felt like I had not accomplished much in 15 years of adulting. To challenge myself, I decided to publish my work. All of it in one beautiful, colourful and girly container.

'TUCA is interested in that uncomfortable, funny, sometimes liberating space between what we've inherited and what we choose for ourselves.'

This is an invitation to question the obvious. To ask, 'Is it?' When something feels like 'that's just how things have always been'. Also refusing that as the answer to things people can’t explain.

You don’t have to always agree with what you find here; that’s how conversations happen anyway. My only hope is that you leave with something worth thinking about. The point isn't to tell you what to think; it’s to make it a little harder to stop thinking.
